
Back in June I wrote a B Side cover story about 62-year-old Chicago soul singer Doug Shorts, whose career is only now beginning to take off after decades of struggling to get his music heard. This fall Jazzman and Numero Group will release archived material from his 70s band, the Master Plan Inc.; rap producer Frank Dukes (Danny Brown, Tree) and Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss are set to drop an album they recorded with the smooth singer last year; and last month formerly local label Cherries Records put out its second seven-inch with Shorts, "Don't Sleep on My Love" b/w "Bet I'll Know the Next Time."…
